OK, I don’t normally write about political issues, but I read about the Ted Klaut arrest over at Radical Vixen’s, and it made me wonder – does the anti-woman, anti-choice, anti-midwife legislation go hand-in-hand with the proclivity to child rape and molestation of young women and girls under one’s care because, well, perhaps one is so fat and ugly (there’s a picture) and mentally disgusting (my assumption) that he can only manage to fuck powerless women? Are Conservative Right Republicans so anti-woman because it increases their potential sexual partners? Are they so set on no-sex-before-marriage because then the woman won’t know that his penis is small and he’s lousy and/or selfish in bed? Anti-gay because it’s a whole new set of options that don’t include fucking them? It sure would explain a lot...

Of course, some people who are against abortion actually are thinking about the babies. Don't paint us all with the same brush.

Of course, you probably weren't talking about me, since I'm pro- everything else on your list. Except for midwives; I never gave them much thought. I'm sure they do excellent work.

Hey, PJ, I'm glad you weighed in! Note that I didn't say "anti-abortion," but "anti-choice," - it's a fine distinction, but for me the larger issue is that no-one is pro-*abortion*, and I think we (on both sides) tend to lose that in the debate. Because really, the sides will never convince each other - either you believe life begins at conception or you don't, and it's not a negotiable belief that screaming louder will change.

I wish that both sides of that particular debate could find the common ground of "OK, we hate abortion, and you feel like it's a necessary option sometimes, but we all are against unwanted pregnancy, we all are pro-helping-babies and pro-good-parenting, so you pass out condoms over there, and we'll preach abstinence over here, and in the middle we'll all promote adoption, sponsor some parenting classes, and take mothers in crisis into our homes and counseling centers."

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on your attractiveness to potential sexual partners... ;)

The difference is that I am cofortable in a world where those against abortion attempt to persuade others of the rightness of their opinion, but they will not let me have my belief that the right to choose is something between a woman and her doctor. The so-called "pro-life" movement is really the "anti-choice," since they look for ways to make my position illegal, while I embrace their efforts to make abortion unnecessary. Sadly, many of these groups oppose contraception (the Catholic Church) and advocate abstinence as the ONLY solution to teenage pregnancy, and have opposed things like making the morning after pill readily available to all women who might need it.

A couple of obvious points:
first, he's from South Dakota.

second, this is from the same country that wants to bring democracy to the Middle East with the barrel of a gun.

And PJ...the midwives of the world are amazing people. To put up with all the shit they have to...and continue to function....sheesh...

I tried doing the midwife thing for seven years. I personally found the whore thing much easier.

Yes, I could have been arrested for both, but in the meantime, I got to at least fucking get a full night's sleep without having some idiot asking me what time the natural food store opened at 6 am and then abandoning me when I got arrested for having the (contraband) equipment for saving their life.
