Just had attorney friend over for dinner (the asshole kind of attny who defends cops and prisons at any cost). He just came from court with following report - cop has drunk girl with double Ds do jumping jacks as her sobriety test. She didn't pass but managed almost 50 before she was told to stop. I told friend he was more of a shitbag then cop for getting him off.
It's not that the attorneys get these people off, it's the unequal distribution of the resources. Big companies and institutions can pay to have the best legal talent. If they were the ones who had to use public defenders or work pro se, imagine how different a world it would be.
